Our goal is to make learning and education resources more accessible. We connect families with community resources. We also collaborate with our community partners to give parents the information they need to help their little ones create positive reading experiences

 One out of four children in the United States grows up without learning how to read.  Louisiana's illiteracy rate is worse than the rest of the nation, and more than half of Americans between the ages of 16 and 74 cannot read above the sixth-grade level.

 The State Department of Education reported only 39.2% of kindergarteners are reading at grade level. That number sits around 50% for first graders.

 New Orleans' adult literacy rate is lower than the national average. the New Orleans Community Data Center estimates the city has a 26 percent low-literacy rate among 18 to 64 year-olds, compared to 23 percent nationally.

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster a vibrant and nurturing literary community for Black women, children, and families. Founded by two young Black mothers, our book club is dedicated to the advancement of literacy and a love for reading among youth. We are committed to building connections among women through the power of literature, while also promoting positive child-parent relationships."
