Jazzlyn has always had a true passion for reading. As a child she often surpassed her reading goals, and used books as a tool to escape the hardships of her then life. As she got older, the demands of life and school slowly pulled her and her passion for reading apart.
After a challenging labor and delivery, Jazzlyn experienced a bit of birth trauma and PMAD, and she once again found herself using books as a tool to cope with what she was going through. It also gave her a great way to bond with her new baby. Jazzlyn is now a mother, full spectrum birth worker, and community outreach coordinator.
Jazzlyn is on a mission to share her love and passion for reading with other black and brown families. She believes the key to future lies within the pages of a book. It is now Jazzlyn's goal to help empower families through education, advocacy and helping facilitate family bonding.
Reading has always been a fundamental part of Kyla’s life. She used books as a way to escape on wild adventures as a child. Her favorite stories mainly included fictional characters and silly make-believe stories. Growing up in brought a sense disconnection between her and her love of reading. This disconnect would be persistent into her adulthood.
Becoming a mother was a pivotal moment in her life. During this time she gained a new perspective on life, both positive and negative. Only when she realized the importance of reading to her young child, did her love of reading reemerge.
Becoming reacquainted with reading was a saving grace for Kyla. It gave her an outlet from the everyday worries as a mother, student, and spouse. Every since it has been her goal to enable other women and mothers to regain control over their peace of mind through reading too. Kyla has also seen the turmoil of the current educational climate in Louisiana and feels she must positively impact the future of literacy in the state.
